The Reserves travelled to last season's champions Basingstoke on Saturday, and came away with three valuable points after putting in an exceptional performance, culminating in a 4-1 victory.
The first goal came early as Laurie Walters finished off a five man passing movement, with a good goal, shooting in from a left wing cross after just five minutes. On the half-hour mark Woods got their second goal when Paul Spicer notched his first for the club. The Basingstoke goalie made a hash of a cross and Paul took his chance to give Northwood a two-goal half-time lead.
Basingstoke were shocked further within 10 minutes of the restart when the impressive John Sonuga helped himself to a brace. On 51 minutes James Lindsay, who had an excellant game, combined in a two-man passing movement with Laurie Walters. They split open the 'Stoke defence, allowing Sonuga to score when Walters' shot was blocked and came back to Sonuga.
Within a couple of minutes Sonuga got his second and Woods' fourth when he latched onto a through ball and slotted past the keeper.
Basingstoke netted a consolation goal when they scored in the 65th minute, when Ben Joyce hit a shot from the edge of the box past an unsighted Mark Britt, but Woods comfortably played out the remainder of the game to record a convincing win.
